famous for having one of the first Compagnia dei Battuti (a religious group of lay people). The
church of San Vigilio, famous for its Danse
Macabre by Simone Baschenis of Averaria, dates back to before the year
1000. Pinzolo’s proximity to the Adamello peaks, through which the
Austrian-Italian front line ran, meant that it was inevitably caught up in
the First World War. At the beginning of the 19th century many
locals were forced to emigrate through economic hardship, taking the
traditional Rendena Valley craft of knife-grinding with them. The strategic
position of Pinzolo and its excellent conference and sports facilities make
it an important holiday resort as well as a spa resort. |
